Sustainable Development Goals
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are 17 goals set by the United Nations in 2015. Together, they form a global plan to build a better, fairer world by 2030. They cover big challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, and protecting the environment — and they ask everyone, from governments to businesses to individuals, to help out where they can.
Why I Contribute to the SDGs
I believe it is important to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as an entrepreneur. By reducing the environmental impact of shipping, using environmentally friendly packaging materials, and separating business waste, I support SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. Through these efforts, I aim to operate my business in a more sustainable way and contribute to a better future.
Responsible Consumption and Production
SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production focuses on using resources responsibly and reducing environmental impact. To contribute to this goal, I use protective packaging made from FSC®-certified (Forest Stewardship Council) materials. By choosing responsibly sourced packaging, I help promote more sustainable production and reduce the environmental impact of my business.
Climate Action
SDG 13: Climate Action focuses on reducing the impact of climate change. At Gerven Bulbs, we support this goal through Shopify Planet (Millennium tier). With every order, we contribute to certified carbon removal projects that permanently remove CO₂ from the atmosphere, helping to offset the climate impact of shipping. By supporting a portfolio of independently verified carbon removal initiatives, every order contributes to long-term climate action and a more sustainable future.
Example of a Carbon Removal Partner
One example of a company that contributes to the carbon removal portfolio supported through Shopify Planet is Climeworks. The company develops Direct Air Capture and Storage (DAC+S) technology, which removes carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere and stores it safely in underground geological formations.
